FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A. You have to be over 18 years of age to work for Acorn Adventure. You can apply for a job before your 18th birthday providing you have turned 18 by the start date you have indicated on your application form. Our staff range from 18-65 years of age, with the majority aged between 18 and 25.
A. We accept applications from Mid September through to the following August, however, our busy period is between Christmas and Easter. To give you the best chance to secure a position, we would suggest you apply between November and January and get ahead of the crowd!
A. No, not always, but it will help your application if you do hold some. Each year we employ many people who do not have formal qualifications, but instead have bags of energy, a sense of fun and the drive to ensure young people in their care are safe and having a fantastic experience. Obviously we need to recruit a certain level of Instructors holding National Governing Body qualifications but we also run excellent training schemes for staff, leading to NGB awards. Please visit the Training Page for further details. For senior instructional staff, and especially Activity Managers, we will expect NGB Awards and relevant industry experience to be considered for the post. Please call us to discuss any aspect of your application.
A. Our season starts in April and concludes in the first week of September, which is 5 months in total. Normally, we offer contracts to those who are able to work the full length of the season, but we do also contract some employees who can only work for a shorter period during this time. The minimum amount of time you can work for us is 6 weeks and can include work-placements if you are studying.
A. Yes, although we would much prefer you to stay in your centre there may be an occasion where we ask you to work in one of our other centres. Most staff actually relish the opportunity to work in another centre as it always involves travel, meeting new staff and being welcomed into a similar environment. In some cases, staff don't want to leave to return to their original centre they enjoy it so much!
A. On your application form there is space for you to say if you are applying with a friend in the 'Additional Information' section. If you include their name on your application we will do our best to make sure you are both placed at the same centre wherever possible.
A. Absolutely. Within the first two weeks of training you will be forming friendships within your centre and deciding whom you are going to share your accommodation with. However, they must also want to share with you!
A. Yes. Acorn is very proud to say that all staff are expected to make a full and valid contribution to centre life. This is another fact that sets us apart from other companies. We don't want robots who go through the motions, stopping work at 5o'clock or when the bell rings. Let's give you an example. On occasions there will be guests playing games on their village after activity sessions and in most instances they would love you to join in. It really makes a difference when you go an extra mile for our guests without counting the cost. At Acorn, we do expect staff to give a little of their time to ensure a brilliant service. To balance the commitment you make to your guests, we give you the "down time" you need to relax and ensure you don't take part in entertainments every night of the week!
A. No. Acorn Adventure organises and pays for your training except for membership of NGB's and certification. We believe that training should be an integral part of our "Employee Package" and staff do not pay for the training they receive before, during, or after the season. To find out more about Acorn's Training Programmes please visit the "Training" section of this website.
A. We will ask you to make a set amount contribution towards the uniform which we will discuss during your interview.
